Gregory, 540 Broadway, NY in 1864, and in London (Low) in 1865. 12mo; 31pp; decorative lettering on blue textured cloth over beveled board; gilt-stamped double fillets with corner ornaments surrounding decorative lettering on front, blind-stamped rear board; orange glazed endpapers; faint gift inscription dated "1866" on front fly-leaf; color fp facing a color pictorial half-title; 4 color plates; light scrape to spine; near fine. (BAL 7660). Nathaniel Hawthorne's story about two siblings, a girl named Violet and a boy named Peony for his florid complexion. The children make a snow-friend on a wintry day, but their parents don't quite understand their snow creation.
