The book is the result of years of research by the author, who is trained as an anthropologist. Her thesis, from the The University of California at Berkeley, was completed in 2008. She studied the plantation named in the title for evidence of the relationship of the members before racial slavery was codified by law. The book includes chapter notes, a rather extensive bibliography, and index. It is a fine copy in dust jacket.
