About This Item
Harrisonburg, VA: J. H. Wartmann and Brothers, 1849. Full Leather. Good+ binding. 12mo 475, [1 (errata)] pp. First edition. In contemporary mottled sheep with a black morocco title label. An attractive and solid copy with limited rubbing to the binding; front board is starting to separate and is tender, but holding; some abrasion to the title label; light and occasional foxing, but largely clean. The 1848 journey includes material about Washington, DC, the mid-Atlantic states, New York City and upstate, Niagara Falls, Montreal, New England, Nova Scotia, etc. Myers of New Hope, VA makes interesting observations all along the way about the American Revolution, Native Americans, Slavery, in addition to the usual recounting of points of interest. This is a nice copy of a book not often found thus. Howes M-932.
