Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" The rare first edition of this classic first-hand account of prospecting for gold at the height of the ruish for gold in California. A good copy in the original dark brown cloth stamped in gilt and blind, original yellow coated endpapers (spine chipped with tears; wear to boards and corners; heavy foxing to text). Two opposing blanks at rear feature 19th-century pencil accounting notes. PROVENANCE: 49er-themed bookplate of Walter Peter Crinnion. Bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown of H.D. Chapin & Co. Booksellers, Chicago (damaged).
