Previously published as Ambush at Scorpion Valley, this book is primarily a story with Tucson Smith as the main character. Tucson is one of the Three Mesquiteers which Colt MacDonald made famous in his books and Republic Pictures made famous on the screen, including John Wayne playing Stony Brooke. But here you only meet all three of them in chapter two before Tucson goes it alone and tries to stop the looting and stealing of a group known as the Scorpions. The book nears its 90th birthday since original publication, yet it is still as entertaining today as when it come out. Allen William Colt MacDonald's work is timeless; and needs to be read by this new generation of readers so they can come to know the Old West as only someone who had been there can tell it. My kind of book, traditional, yet there are elements of it which stand out and are not necessarily what one might think of when it comes to the Old West. I recommend it.
