Inscribed on the endpaper to the well-known actress and one-time wife of Edgar James, Charlie Chaplin, Burgess Meredith and Erich Maria Remarque: "For Paulette Goddard, with affection and gratitude from Myna & Lewis Browne November 10, 1940." Myna Browne is the dedicatee as well as one of the illustrators.
