New York: Norton, 1964. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good. First edition. Hardcover in gray cloth stamped in blue. 366 pp. Illustrated with drawings and color plates. Fine (small prev. own. sig. top corner nof front free endpaper) in original dust jacket, mostly bright but with s bit of light solining. This nis the first version of the jacket with the "Special price until Dec. 31, 1964: $10" with the regular price of $12.50 beneath, on top corner of the front flap. Chiang Yee, a Chinese author, poet and calligrapher, authored a famed series of "Silent Traveller" books beginning in 1936 with a description of the English Lake District and extending to twelve titles through 1972. He described the places to which he travelled with what he called the "sideways look" in peaceful, non-judgemental ways that often included small, overlooked details.
