About This Item
USA: SCM Press Ltd., 1985. Paperback. used-good condition. “The Seven Deadly Sins: A Contemporary View” (1985), by Kenneth Slack. Pride, covetousness, lust, envy, gluttony, anger, sloth: even the names given to what are collectively known as 'the seven deadly sins' seem dated, and the whole concept related only to a monastic world which has long since passed. In his Lent Book for 1985, Kenneth Slack shows that the insights which led to the categorizing of the seven do, however, retain permanent validity. Moreover, they are insights which penetrate deeply into current moral issues such as the cult of monetarism, and what is known as today's 'permissive society.' In this study, Dr. Slack draws on over 40 years of experience in a ministry that has varied between city and suburban pastorates and service as General Secretary of the British Council of Churches and Director of Christian Aid. He will be remembered as a regular contributor to the BBC's 'Thought for the Day,' and also a minister of Kensington United Reformed Church.
