Description:
[Laguna Beach, California: Laguna Verde Imprenta], 1976 One of about fifty copies printed on an Albion hand press. The introductory essay is signed by Lawrence Clark Powell. Ritchie has signed his essay on Quince, with all his various pseudonyms: Davie Dicher, James Beattie Pitwood, Betsey Ann Bristol, Peter Lum Quince, and Peter Mallory, plus his own name. Original marbled wrappers with printed paper label. . Octavo. Seven woodcut illustrations from designs by Paul Landacre. Title-page in green, salmon and light green. Wrappers lightly browned around the edges, possibly a flaw in the manufacturing, as we've seen this in other copies. Otherwise a fine, fresh copy. This book gives a thorough chronicle of Ritchie's various pseudonyms, detailing when each was used. It is followed by Ritchie's poem, "A Smattering of Quince."

London: Heinemann, 1911. 1st ed. Hardcover. Very Good. Robinson, Charles. 1st trade ed., 4to, full green decorated cloth, illustrated endpapers and 18 mounted, tissue-guarded color plates by Charles Robinson, as well as many spot illustrations in line and two colors. Printed entirely on heavy, glossy paper.
Separating slightly at a few signatures, bump to bottom of spine, and previous owner touched up the color on on the tips and lower spine edge. Still a nice, bright copy without previous owner's marks, with bright pictorial embossed gilt on the spine and cover. One of Robinson's most wonderfully decorative covers. In a reconstituted pictorial dust wrapper illustrated front and rear with the same artwork, printed in black.
Scarce in jacketâthis one is split at the spine and is missing the lower half of the spine and a 1/2 inch at the top. Except for a 1/2" chip to the top rear corner, and a bit more loss along the edge, both covers and flaps are complete.

Suncook, Pembroke, N.H., 1878. 12mo, original russet cloth, gilt title and decorative black stamping on front cover, lower cover with blind-stamped title and ornament. Frontis. portrait engraving, 63 pp., illus. On the morning of October 4, 1875, the beautiful 17-year-old Josie Langmaid did not show up for school. When Pembroke Academy staff notified her family, a search party was assembled. That night the party found her decapitated and violated body in the woods near the school and discovered her head the next morning. Following the initial arrest of innocent parties, the actual murderer was identified as French-Canadian woodcutter Joseph Lapage. Tried and found guilty, he admitted to his crime (as well as a similar murder in Vermont) on March 15th, 1878 and was hung the following day. The town of Pembroke placed a monument to the victim near the murder site, with directions to the sites where her body and head were discovered. Keeler's forty-page poetic eulogy is preceded by a brief account of…
