Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Tanning to spine and edges.

Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and tanning.

Illustrated frontispiece – a portrait of Matthew Arnold. Brown textured cloth covered boards, with gilt and blue coloured decoration to the front panels and back strip and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Dark red coloured tint to the top text block edges. Title says it all. Part of he King's Treasury Of Literary Masterpieces series. A little softening of the back strip with rubbing of the book corners and lower book edges. Light age toning of the text block edges with scattered foxing, which has also occurred to the pages.
