Nearly fine copy in full leather. 1805. 1st. hardcover. 8vo, 286 pp., "Embellished with engravings on wood by Bewick, from Thurston's designs", Printed for James Wallis, Paternoster Row by T. Bensley, Bolt Court, Fleet Street. The poem is preceded by a 16-page "Life of Thomson" and followed by a six-page index & glossary. Each season has an engraved frontis- and tailpiece while " Hymn" at the end has only a frontispiece (as called for).Bound in full red leather, spine in five compartments with four raised bands; floral gilt decorations on three panels and additional gilt decorations on the slightly wider-than-normal bands; front & rear boards have both gilt- and blind-stamped borders; gilt decoration on the visible inner edges of the boards; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. A handsome but unsigned binding. Modern gift inscription on first blank leaf .
