About This Item

This is the first volume of "SCRIBNER'S MONTHLY" - An Illustrated Magazine for the People. Volume I containing the first six issues of the magazine - November, 1870 to April, 1871. The volume contains works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Profusely illustrated. Three-quarter leather binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Here are some examples of the contents: Life in the Cannibal Islands; "Lucky Peer" by Hans Christian Andersen; Something about Balloons; The Bottom of the Sea; Jail Birds and Their Flights; The Street Vendors of New York; Weather-Telegrams and Storm-Forecasts; Kings of the Air; Ships...and much more.

Condition:

There are some small, light stains to the leather at the bottom half of the spine, and at the bottom-right corner of the back cover. Worn cover corners. Wear to the top edge of the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. The pages are in nice condition - lightly age-toned and mostly clean with only light staining at the center of pages 214-219., light staining at the bottom of pages 17-21, and light staining on pages 2-4. The front and rear end papers and pastedowns have tanning at the inner and outer corners. "State Teachers College Library" presentation label affixed to front pastedown. "Gorham State Teachers College" ink stamp on front end paper. Embossed library stamp on title page. Name written on front end paper, title page, and rear end paper. Overall the volume is in Very Good- condition.
