Scott's Militia Tactics; Comprising the Duty of Infantry, Light-Infantry, and Riflemen

Second edition, revised and enlarged. 284 pages, complete, but there are 16 pgs of Introduction and Contents, which are listed as 12 pgs, so there are actually 288 pgs, plus 16 full page plates, which are not numbered, or counted, as pgs. The fly page has a neatly cut out section of margin (see picture). Pgs have some age toning. 2 full pgs, 279-282, are set in at a slight angle, and extend 3/32" above the other pgs.

There are 16 full page plates, while some references say there are 24. None have been removed, cut away from, the original binding. As well, the numbering of the plates is chaotic. Plate 1 precedes pg 145, while a different plate 1 precedes pg 233 (see picture). A listing of plates and locations gives plate 1/145, pl2/151, pl4/161, pl5/169, pl6/169, pl7/173, pl11/187, pl12/191, pl15/203, pl16/203, pl1/233, pl2/239, pl5/247, pl6/249, pl7/253, pl8/255.

Book condition is fair+. Part of the paper covering the rear board and leather spine remains. Gold lettering on the spine is mostly readable. Condition of the pages is good and the binding is tight (see pictures).

The price, $165, reflects the possibility that there might actually be other second edition copies that really do have 24 plates. Perhaps someone at the printer dropped this volume, and did the best job they could putting it back together.
