About This Item

London: Andrew Melrose, Ltd, [1921]. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". Various. A scarce first UK edition of Hermann Hagedorn's 'Roosevelt in the Bad Lands'; chronicling the years Theodore Roosevelt spent as a rancher in the Badlands of Dakota Territory. Hermann Hagedorn was an American author, poet and biographer, best known as the biographer (and close personal friend) of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States. Beyond writing his biography, Hagedorn also served as Secretary and Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association from 1919 to 1957. Hagedorn drew upon the friends and associates' personal recollections of Roosevelt to publish this work, the first serious study of Roosevelt's experience as a rancher in the Badlands after the death of his wife and mother in 1884. Collated, complete with thirty one pages of black and white plates, with a folding map to the rear of the text. This copy is undated, dated using Copac. On the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt title to front board and spine. Externally excellent, with minor shelfwear to extremities. Slight bumping to head and tail of spine. Slight fading to spine. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Front hinge slightly strained but firm after front free-endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned to extremities, but bright and clean, with just the odd spot to the occasional page. Very Good Indeed
