Includes publisher's advertising postcard for "The Seven Wonders of the World". CONTENTS: A study of the tales of the chivalric Romance, together with a collection of those stories. The history of the Chivalric Romance discusses Chaucer, Cervante's "Don Quixote", "Le Morte D'Arthur", Sir Walter Scott's "The Talisman". The included stories are: "The Young Unknown", "The Knight of the Lion", "Sir Gawayne and the Green Knight", "Sir Lanval", "Guy of Warwick", "Roland and Oliver", "Ogier the Dane", "Roncevalles", "Huon's Quest", "Vivien", "The Forbidden Island", "Beltenbros", "Esplandian", "The Dragon of Rhodes", "Pierre of Provence and "The Ransom". ILLUSTRATED with eight color and twenty-seven monochrome plates, being reproductions of paintings by British Pre-Raphaelite and other artists including Ford Madox Brown, Sir John Gilbert, Edwin A. Abbey, Edward Burne-Jones, John Everett Millais, Byam Shaw. AUTHOR Robert Hope Moncrieff (1846-1927) was a prolific writer of children's books and a number of A&C Black travel books.
