The first edition of the work. This educational work expands on previous works of W. Y Sellar and other scholars. It focuses on the Roman poets of the Augustan Age and how and why they still have relevance. Theory and historical knowledge is central to the way in which the information is taught demonstrating the importance of context to understanding the classics. Themes and information are broken down within 11 chapters which all contain detailed sections broken up with subheadings and sections. Bound in calf with the prize binding of Reading School and accompanying bookplate to front paste down. Education and the importance of learning is celebrated within this copy. In a full calf binding with Reading School prize binding to front board. Externally smart with slight rubbing to boards resulting in loss to the front and back corners. Light marks to the boards. Internally firmly bound. Spotting to the blanks and bookplate but pages bright and clean. Very Good
