About This Item

New York: Harry N. Abrams, 1977 . First edition. Hardback. Fine. 11.5" by 11". Robert Motherwell. The first edition of this wonderfully bright compilation of artwork by American abstract expressionist painter, Robert Motherwell. First edition. In the publisher's original pictorial hardback binding. This wonderfully bright work is comprised of the artwork and history of American abstract expressionist painter, Robert Motherwell. Along with the likes of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, Motherwell contributed greatly to the New York art scene, with a new and exciting approach of using torn paper on minimalist backgrounds to create his art. With three-hundred-and-twenty-five plates depicting Motherwell's pieces, some of which are tipped in, as well as notes by the artist, a biographical outline, major exhibitions and a preface by Bryan Robertson. Compiled by H. H. Arnason, an American academic specialising in modern art. In the publisher's original pictorial hardback binding. Externally, lovely, with minor shelf wear only. Light mark to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound, with bright, clean pages. Fine
