About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape,, 1989. Uncorrected proof copy with provisional details on front wrappers, signed by Quentin Blake on a slip laid down to the title page. Proof copies of Dahl's books published by Cape are becoming scarce. The proof features the poems in a different order to the published first edition, together with a different dedication ("For Clover and Luke"). "The marvellously dastardly Dahl has joined forces with that bounder Blake to plunder a wealth of nursery heritage for the delight of the older reader in this wonderful addition to the literature of the absurd" (first edition jacket blurb). Octavo. Original orange wrappers, lettering in black, publisher's device repeated in black. Illustrated throughout by Quentin Blake. Extremities a little worn, some minor soiling to wrappers, spine a little sunned: a very good copy.

Synopsis

"Mary, Mary, quite contrary / How does your garden grow? / 'I live with my brat in a high-rise flat / so how in the world would I know?" This book is a collection of Roald Dahl's poems for older children or adults.
