This is a continuation of the twenty volume history of England which S. R. Gardiner had brought from 1603 to 1656, and Sir Charles Firth had brought to Cromwell's death early in September, 1658. It is, therefore, a continuation of the twenty volumes of those great historians. DJ discoloration inside front board and inside front free endpaper. Godfrey Davies, FBA (1892 - 1957) was a respected English historian of the 17th century. The son of Sir Thomas Davies, he was born in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, and was educated at Chipping Campden Grammar School and was elected to a Townsend Scholarship at Pembroke College, Oxford in 1910. His most widely used works today are his contribution to the Oxford History of England on The Early Stuarts and his Bibliography of the Seventeenth Century.
