About This Item
Boston: Putnam & Hunt, 1829. Disbound. near Very Good binding. Octavo. 48 pp. First edition. Removed from volume with spine neatly secured with archival paper by a conservator. Six-digit number stamped on the title page; contemporary owner name at the top of the same page; contents generally clean.
Orne opens thus, "The Statesman party of Boston, as it is generally termed, is composed of a small body of low, unprincipled intriguers, who by some means or other, with aid of Duff Green, have contrived to obtain from the president appointments to office of the first importance. . . ." And with that, we are off to the races. This is one of those personal squabbles with money and politics and social standing underlying all the "He said," "I said," "He wrote," "I wrote" that fills this pamphlet of nasty reading. Some things don't change!
