Good set bound in quarter buckram over paper boards with a gilt label to the spine. Some wear and tear as with age. Remains well preserved overall; tight, bright, clean and sharp-cornered. Provenance; from the library of the Seminarii S. Ioannis with its bookplate and library marks. Series; Rolls Series ; 28, vi. Physical description; 2 v. : facsim. ; 25 cm. Notes; Spine title: Registrum Abbatiae Johannis Whethamstede. ""Published by the authority of the Lords Commissioners of H.M. Treasury, under the direction of the Master of the Rolls."" Covers events in the second abbacy of John Whethamstede, and in those of his successors, William Alban and William Wallingford. Sometimes attributed to Robert Blakeney, a previous owner of the manuscript. The portion dealing with Whethamstede was published also by Thomas Hearne in 1732 with Thomas Otterbourne's Duo rerum anglicarum scriptores veteres, as ""Johannis Whethamstede Chronicon"". The present ed. includes a collation with Hearne's ed., and extracts from Hearne's criticus apparatus. Includes bibliographical references and indexes. Latin texts; English introduction and notes.
