About This Item
1855. MEEK, A. B. The Red Eagle. A Poem of the South. Orig. cloth. New York: D. Appleton & Company, 1855. First edition. Sabin 47366. Field 1049. Meek was an Alabama poet and this poem draws inspiration from the 1813 Creek War. Field notes that it contains "the usual stereotyped notes on Indian life." Sabin suggests that some copies bear a Mobile imprint, but no Mobile imprints are found in OCLC nor does Ellison include it in her checklist. Binding soiled and edgeworn. Subtle conservation to the front joint has stabilized it. Asheville's Sondley Library blindstamp to the title leaf as well as rubber-stamped number to the verso of the same leaf. Evidence of bookplate removed from the front pastedown. Toning/spotting throughout. Still, a fairly reasonable copy of an uncommon poem.
