About This Item
AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE 1927 1ST EDITION FROM THE PUBLISHER OF THE RAVEN, NOW 96 YEARS OLD
ONLY 450 PRINTINGS OF THIS BOOK WERE EVER MADE; THIS IS THE ONLY PRINTING OF IT I CAN LOCATE AT THIS TIME
IT CONTAINS A COUPLE OF BEAUTIFUL ENGRAVINGS I HAVE NEVER SEEN IN ANY OTHER POE BOOK
THIS BOOK HAS NOT ONLY POE'S MONUMENTAL POEM THE RAVEN BUT ALSO IN-DEPTH BIOGRAPHICAL INFO ON HIS LIFE
This is a nearly unobtainable book from what I have seen based on my research of the largest online bookshops. In 1927 only 450 special editions were printed and bound, and that was it. The sands of time have captured most of these, and the rest may be in private collections. This book is date stamped with the Roman numerals MCMXVII corresponding to 1927. It includes a couple of beautiful plate-pressed etchings that were actually "pressed" into the paper. A rare and stunning edition of one of the most famous poems in history coupled with biographical data on the life of Poe. They don't make them this good anymore, and I don't think they ever will. I would snag this one before it's gone...
"The Raven" is a poem about a man who is heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved Lenore. As he passes a lonely December night in his room, a raven repeatedly taps on the door and then the window. ... After being let in, the raven flies to and lands on a bust of Pallas (an ancient Greek goddess of wisdom.)
The overall condition of this book is very good despite the fact that it's almost 100 years old. It has some normal shelf wear and age but has been very well-kept.
Synopsis
Poe's classic poem of a man visited by a dark omen, first published in 1845. "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore-- While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. "'Tis some visiter," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-- Only this and nothing more."
