"Rabbi and Priest" by Milton Goldsmith is a novel from the late 19th century about a Jewish family living in the area around Kiev. Without giving away the plot, it brings to life the pogroms and the discrimination faced every day by Jews in the Russian Empire. It also contains plot points around the reform of Judaism from its traditional practice at that time, as well as how the Jewish community sought to find a means to live and work with the society at large.
