London: E Harrison, 1839. First edition. Leather. Good Only. 10" by 7". None. A beautifully illustrated first edition of the tumultuous tale of the blacksmith of Antwerp. Profusely illustrated. Illustrations depict scenes such as Frank Merit's interview with the Grand Duke Lladislaus and the fate of Count Von Haalst. Pierce Egan the Younger was son of Pierce Egan the Elder, author of "Tom and Jerry" and other sporting books. Egan the Younger's books were known for being full of murder and passion. He wrote an edition of Robin Hood published in 1840. In a half morocco binding. Externally, sound though a trifle rubbed with bumping to corners and tail of spine. Loss to head of spine. Internally, firmly bound with light foxing to first and last few pages. Scattered spotting throughout, otherwise pages bright Good Only
