Black cloth boards, silver lettering to spine and front board, silver emblem to bottom of front board, blind stamped roundel with letters JWS to centre of front board, all under grey dustwrapper with blue lettering. 8.75ins x 5.75ins, xii, 192pp plus 12pp illustrations. An 18th century Bristol doctor who sailed around the world, helped rescue Alexander Selkirk, invented Dover's powder and promoted the use of mercury (quicksilver) as a cure-all in his London practice. Previous owners signature to front free endpaper else VG / VG.
