Brown cloth boards, title on spine in gilt lettering, moderate edge wear and rubbing; in good condition. Binding is loose but textblock is completely attached. Clean interior. Previous owner's personal library stamp & signature on front endpaper of both volumes, along with Barton Wright's signature in the first volume. Vol. I is 550 pages, includes foldout map between 208-209. Vol. II continues from previous volume to 1276 pages. Back board of second volume has some handwritten notes in colored pencil. Elsie Clews Parsons (1875-1941) was an influential anthropologist, sociologist, and feminist who was a leading authority on the Native American tribes of the southwestern United States. This encyclopedic two-volume work synthesizes and compares the complex religious beliefs and ceremonies of the Pueblo Indians of Arizona and New Mexico, remaining a standard reference to this day. ; 8" x 5.5" tall .
