This is an antique salesman's dummy sample of the book "The Progressive Ages, or the Triumphs of Science. And Treasures of Nature, History and Literature" by H.L. Harvey. 1881; J.A. Ruth & Co.; Philadelphia and Chicago. The book contains illustrations throughout. Please note: this is an abbreviated copy of the book (not all pages are present); it was used as a sample only to show to prospective subscribers. There are numerous lined pages at the back for the salesman's use - four of these pages have handwritten names, addresses etc. of subscribers.
Condition:
Clean front cover and spine; mottling to the cloth on the back cover. Small cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a partial crack at the rear hinge between the end paper and pastedown halfway up from the bottom edge. The pages are age-toned though not brittle, and clean with only a small, dark spot at the outer edge of pages 165 & 170. There are 4 lined salesman's pages at the back with subscriber's names/addresses written in pencil. Overall the book is in Good condition.
