About This Item
St Martin's Press, New York, 2016. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Introduction by editors, organisation of the Edition, Translators' Introduction, acknowledgements, short biographies of persons mentioned in the text, glossary of German terms and abbreviations and index. Red coloured boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Plaintext dustwrapper (which looks dirty, but is an actual fact a facsimile of original document) with black and red coloured titles to the front panel and red and black coloured titles to the back strip. Quoting from the rear panel blurb " ... In his private letters Heinrich Himmler shows himself to be a perpetrator out of deep conviction ... In no way did he separate his activity as the head of the SS, responsible for carrying out the extermination policies, from his private life, as though he ever had to conceal the fact of mass murder. He did not boast about this to his wife, but rather considered mass murder a necessary duty that was placed on the from above ... These letters should allow the reader to discern this distortion of normality: violence plug-in innocuousness, the icy coldness that goes hand-in-hand with a specious solicitude ... In these letters we see expressed the single-mindedness of a German couple who believe that they were participating in "great times," a couple incapable of recognising that these were, in fact, great crimes." Translated by Thomas S. Hansen and Abby J. Hansen. A little rubbing of the book edges and age toning of the text block edges and pages. Some creasing of the top dustwrapper edge with a small tear to the top top edge of the front panel. Minor rubbing of the panels. Full number line. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [9], 2 - 344 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
