About This Item

Macmillan, 1961. First edition, first printing + the original publisher's proof copy for the title. 8vo. Turquoise boards with gilt titles. A near fine copy with clean boards. Some very light mottling spots to gutter hinge & spine o/w fine. Internally clean and complete. No inscriptions. The near fine dustwrapper has light wear only to extremities. None of the usual fading to red lettering on spine. Original price of 13s6dnet on front flap. The original Publisher's Proof copy has orange decorative Publisher's card covers. A very good+ copy with clean covers. Old retailers booksellers ink stamp to front cover. No chipping or splitting. Internally clean with no marks & no inscriptions. One corner crease. Proof copies of these Twentieth Century minor classics are becoming hard to find & make a great accompaniment to the first edition. In 1998 Modern Library ranked this title in its list of 100 best English language novels of the 20th century. Miss Jean Brodie is unmistakably in her prime at Blaine School in Edinburgh. She teaches that safety is not first but goodness, truth and beauty. "Follow me" she says and most do but one will betray.
