Precious Bane by Mary Webb. 1938 first Modern Library edition (c/r 1926), 356 pages. Webb was a romance novelist and poet, and although the likes of Rebecca West and J.M. Barrie were fans, she wasn't recognized for her genius until after her death when reissues of her books became bestsellers. Precious Bane is set in Shopshire, , and the "precious bane" is the detriment of the pursuit of wealth.

Condition: Jacket in acceptable fragile condition with many chips, book is in good+ condition with some wear and tanning to blue flexi boards, owner name on endpaper.
