Fair. 208pp. Octavo [22 cm] Full leather binding with gilt stamped titles and ornamental designs stamped in blind and gilt on the front cover and spine. All edges gilt. Brown and white floral endpapers. Frontis engraving of Orson F. Whitney, lacking the tissue guard. Taped at the head of the backstrip with black vinyl tape. Lower half of the backstrip torn. p. 207/208 nearly completely detached. Flake: 9777. In addition to writing The History of Utah, Orson F. Whitney wrote biographies of Heber C. Kimball and Lorenzo Snow, his autobiography entitled Through Memory's Halls, and several books of poetry including his lengthy epic poem, Elias, An Epic of the Ages. He also wrote frequent defenses of literature.
