Covers show a little rubbing and show light wear at corners and spine ends. There is small open tear on the lower edge of the front free end leaf and appears to have stuck to the front paste down at one time. Volume remains tight and is otherwise very clean.. This is an "elegantly illustrated" Civil War-era copy of "The Poetical Works of CHARLES LAMB." 1865; E.H. Butler & Co.; Philadelphia. Nicely decorated covers and spine. Gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. This edition features a frontispiece portrait of Lamb, an illustrated title page, and three other full-page engraved plates. This copy was presented as a "2nd English Prize, 4th Class" presumably from a teacher to a student. The contents are grouped into the following categories - Miscellaneous; Sonnets; Blank Verse; Album Verses; Commendatory Verses; Translations.Condition:Clean front cover and spine with bright gilt; small, barely visible stain on the back cover. Cloth tears at the cover corners, and at the top and bottom edges of the spine. The text pages are in nice condition - mostly clean with only a few random, light foxing spots and smudges here and there.
