About This Item

London: E. Moxon, Son & Co., 1872. Fine Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Birket Foster. Size 11¼" x 8½", 180 pages, a heavy volume. Black leather and gilt fine binding. The front and back covers are decorated with multiple gilt borders of various thicknesses with ornate corner emblems, the borders are further filled with ornate floral design. On the front cover in the centre in gilt is "Queenwood College 2nd class prize" There are five raised bands to the spine decorated with gilt. The title "Hood's Poems" is in gilt in the second compartment, the other compartments contain gilt flowers. The pages are edged with gilt and on the inner turn-ins there are very ornate bright gilt dentelles. Printed on thick, good quality paper. Condition very good, a little rubbing to the cover edges, some sporadic foxing throughout though the engravings by Birket Foster are largely unaffected. With 22 engraved illustrations by Birkett Foster, engraved in steel by William Miller, all with original paper guards.
