About This Item
Eton: Eton College Press, 1902. Leather. Very Good. 10.5" by 6.5". None. A handsome edition of Gray's poetry printed as a presentation volume for students at Eton College. Featuring a portrait frontispiece and several further plates. Binder's stamp of Spottiswoode and Co to verso of front free-endpaper. Thomas Gray was a English poet, and letter-writer. Incredibly popular, Gray was offered Poet Laureate in 1757, but he turned the position down. Despite his popularity, Gray only published thirteen poems in his lifetime. In a calf binding. Externally, generally smart, though with some rubbing and a few marks. Slight wear to the head of the spine, with rear joint starting. Internally, firmly bound. Ink inscription to recto of front free-endpaper. Pages are bright and quite clean, though with some foxing and tidemarks to the plates. Very Good
