Hard cover 24 mo, in contemporary rebinding of full leather blind-stamped with triple-ruled border featuring a design of Gothic-style interlaced circles with floral decoration, the spine with five raised bands and the title blocked in gold, marbled end papers with the dentelles and board edges blocked in gold, all edges gilt, tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece portrait of the Author, xi, (1-5) 6-410 pp., stated Fifteenth Edition.**Condition: Very Good. Some old black ink stains to both boards. Very light rubbing to two corners. Original owner's signature in pencil to ffep., small Washington DC. bookseller's label to front pastedown. Gentle age toning, moderate to title page, otherwise very clean and tight.**This work is an anthology of the beloved Boston-born Poet, physician and all round man of letters, Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. (1809-1894.) Included are: Poetry: a Metrical Essay (1836); Miscellaneous Poems ( 1830 et al ); and Songs in Many Keys (1861). **Provenance: Virginia (Dodge) Poore, (1826-1894) born Washington D.C., married to fellow-Bay Stater, the influential Washington journalist, foreign correspondent, and author, Maj. Ben: Perley Poore (1820-1887). He was also the first President of Washington's Gridiron Club. The Poores would live the latter part of their lives at his family home in West Newbury, Massachusetts.
