Champlain: Privately Printed at the Moorsfield Press, 1929. 8vo, printed brown wrappers. [5], 27 pp., including 12 appendices. One of 52 copies numbered and signed by the editor. This copy number 47. An obituary for Revolutionary War officer Pliny Moore, first published in the Plattsburgh Republican in 1822. Pliny was the first settler in Champlain, New York and a lifelong Clinton County judge and Presbyterian. According to McLellan, the obituary was probably written for the Pittsburgh newspaper by Reverend Joseph Laboree. Appendices include correspondence concerning Pliny Moore's enlistment in army, Military Record, Purchase of Soldiers' Land Rights, Land Grants and more. From the colophon: "Fifty-two copies of this Obituary were printed by Hugh McLellan, April 1929, at the Moorsfield Press, Champlain, N.Y., being the fourteenth production of the Press. No. 47." CONDITION: Good, wrappers chipped at edges, 1 cm closed tear to bottom center edge of front wrapper, faint early ownership inscription in pencil on front wrapper; very good text .
