About This Item
Richard Barnes, 1966. First Edition. Softcover [quarto], in printed brown card wraps, 100 pp. Very Good or better, with trifle edgewear.. Cover design by C.H. Hertel. Self-produced edition of Barnes' early theatrical and critical writings, compiled in 1966 soon after his lifelong post teaching English at Claremont McKenna began in 1966. Barnes was a poet of some note and perhaps best known for his translations (with Richard Mezey) of the poetry of Jorge Luis Borges.
Laid in is a typewritten signed letter to Thor Wood, recently appointed to head the Performing Arts Research Center for NYPL (which itself had just relocated to Lincoln Center), telling him this copy was for him and "the other to insinuate into the Lincoln Center library if you'd be so kind", which Wood seemingly obliged, as NYPL holds one of just nine copies we could locate worldwide.
Additionally inscribed "for Thor, and Damned good too / Dick Barnes" on the title page.
