About This Item

8vo., viii, 342pp, Original dark green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket which has a small chip on the rear cover bottom and a few tiny edge tears, but otherwise bright and near-fine. 20-page publisher's advertisements dated 1932-3 at rear (like many slow selling scholarly books, copies of the same edition would often be bound later with new ads). Foot of spine bumped, corners lightly rubbed, otherwise a bright, clean copy in the scarce dust jacket, chipped with a few marks to spine. First edition, later impression, with the later advertisements and later issue dust jacket. A collection of ten papers on philosophical matters including "The Refutation of Idealism" (first published in Mind, 1903), which contains the philosopher's most famous criticisms of idealism. The two ethical essays newly published are "The Conception of Intrinsic Value" and "The Nature of Moral Philosophy"; the rest appeared previously in journals such as Mind, Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society, and The New Quarterly. Probably one the nicest examples one will see of this title.
