In the original Latin.Lucan's popular Roman epic poem 'Pharsalia', or, 'On the Civil War'. The poem details the civil war between Julius Caesar and the Roman Senate.This poem became particularity popular during times of civil wars and troubles; this edition was interestingly published towards the end of Amsterdam's golden age, just after a bad outbreak of the bubonic plague.With an illustrated title page.Bookplate to the verso to the title page, 'Libertas Suprema Lex, J.H.H.'. In a contemporary vellum binding. Externally, lightly discoloured, as is usual with vellum binding. Light marks to the boards. Front hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Bound without front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean with some odd spots. Title page is lightly chipped due to edgewear. Bookplate to the verso of the title page. Good
