About This Item
NY: Triangle Publications, Inc., 1952. Magazine. Good. Soft cover. Folio. Entire issue, October, 1952, in original wraps, moderate general wear and soiling, spine chipped about 2-inches at each end, wraps separated from spine ends several inches, but holding firmly nonetheless, scuffs and scratches noted at front cover, fore edge of front wrap is chipped a bit along the length, rear wrap missing a 2 x 2-inch piece at bottom edge, no mailing label. Includes a small portrait and a biographical note, "Sylvia Plath, nineteen, a junior at Smith College, Massachusetts, spends summers at odd jobs in search of material for her writing -- also for the money; one result is, 'The Perfect Setup' which won as honorable-mention in Seventeen's last short story contest." Story begins at page 100. From the opening paragraph, "Gray fog was raveling thin along the beach and small waves folded over on each other in a lather of dirty white foam. The whole shoreline was bleached out in a soapy haze. Over the noise of the tide came the screams of children playing down by the water." Very scarce, early prose from the poet and author..
