London: Etchells & Macdonald, 1926.. Quarto. Cream linen spine and orange cloth over boards, stamped in gilt. Faint dust soiling to spine, trace of normal offsetting to endsheet gutters, otherwise a fine copy in lightly worn slipcase. First edition. Introduction and captions to the illustrations by Bernard Windeler. Illustrated with twenty-three original copper engravings by Wadsworth, printed from the plates, both full-page and vignette, and some delicately handcolored. One of four hundred and fifty copies. Wadsworth was, of course, one of the original signators to the Vorticist manifesto and regrettably that tradition shows through only occasionally and briefly in these draftsman-like renderings. Of particular interest to this cataloguer is the probability that the author of the captions is the same B.C. Windeler whose ELIMUS, with illustrations by Dorothy Shakespear, was published in Pound's INQUEST series three years earlier.

Mint condition poster (no thumbtack holes), rare as Royale Theatre shown at bottom of poster (where most of the performances were held in 1980), 14" x 22". Most posters show no theatre at all. Artist McMullan name at lower right corner. One of his earliest.

NP. 1926 - 1972. A magnificent archive of stage performers 'Bobby and Evelyn' who performed as clowns. (11 x 8.3 inches). There are over 150 items, stuck neatly into a large folder, the spine of which is now breaking. Comprising: 24 real mono photographs (12 from the Clown act and 12 from a Luton Grammar School gymnastic display which was choreographed by Squire), One large poster, circa 40 letters and telegrams, circa 60 programmes and show bills, circa 25 newspaper cuttings. The earliest items here are a photo dated 1926 and a flyer from 1928, and the latest seems to be 1972 on a large poster from Girvan. Working for the most part as Clown Bobby and Evelyn, His real name was Robert Squire, hers was Evelyn Wrensted. The couple performed across the country at fetes, fairs, concert parties and on the music hall and end of pier circuit for almost fifty years. This is the unique personal record of their career, from booking confirmations and programmes to photographs, letters of thanks and newspaper coverage.

Large Quatro, 11.25 x 7 in. Second edition. A-Z4, Aa-Kk4. The frontispiece bears a fine engraved portrait of Sir Robert Howard. This is a good copy, somewhat browned internally throughout with the occasional worm in the first 80 pages and sometimes affecting single letters but not objectionable. William Morehead's bookplate is pasted inside the front board. The very nice paneled and speckled contemporary binding has been rebacked. 1908. No Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. Hugh Thomson. This is the original watercolour, by Hugh Thomson, used for the picture of Eashing in chapter XI of the book by Eric Parker. The image is 11 X 8.5" and is framed and glazed by Edward Walker & Co of Coleraine, N.I., where Hugh Thomson originated. The image is clean and tidy although the inside of the glass has some spots on it and the picture would benefit from reglazing. London: X3 Posters RARE exhibition poster, no date, circa 1982- 1990 ( possibly 1989, the numbers 8 an 9 printed on the hands lower left), by Ken Meharg and Bob Linney, who ran the poster operation for Birmingham Arts Laboratory or Arts Lab, an experimental arts centre in Birmingham, until 1982. Posters from that era were featured in an international touring exhibition by the British Council between 1981 and 1985, and were the subject of an exhibition by Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in 1998. They were known for their use of psychedelic imagery. Near Fine, small faint creases. Well suited for framing, will be shipped loosely rolled in a mailing tube. . First Printing. Poster.
