London: Longman, Hurst, Rees Orme, and Brown, 1818., 1818. First printing. 8vo. vii, 329 pp. Illustrated with 6 copperplates 2 of which are hand-colored. Original contemporary tree calf, partially rebacked, retaining original covers and the richly gilt spine; marbled endpapers. Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie (1783-1862) was one of the best known British surgeons of his day, attending many prominent people including George IV. His early work in physiology won him election to the Royal Society, being one of the few medical practitioners to become President (in 1858). Wear at the extremities, tight very good; contents quite bright. Scarce in the first edition.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good.
