A picture book illustrated throughout. Staple-bound. In the color-illustrated dust jacket, unclipped. An autograph note, signed, from the author is laid-in. This copy was a gift from Henkes to one of his mentors, Barbara Bader, children's book critic and author of "American Picturebooks from Noah's Art to The Beast Within." Her influence was such that Henkes dedicated his book "Sun Flower Lion" to Bader. In the laid-in note, Henkes states that the copy is "what will be my next picture book. It comes with all good wishes for a very happy birthday! / Love, / Kevin." On the card Henkes has drawn a pink elephant stating, from his trunk, "Dear Barbara ... ." In an accompanying note, in Bader's hand, she has written a favorable critique of the book, and notes that "this is not what I wrote to Kevin." A superb association. Dust jacket is now protected in a clear, removable, archival sleeve.
