About This Item
Boston: Four Seas, 1928. 1st ed. Hardcover. Very Good. 80p. Cloth-backed paper-covered boards. 21cm. Small gouge in backstrip cloth which is also lightly worn at ends (minor loss of cloth). Other extremities rubbed with some loss of patterned paper. No Jacket. INSCRIBED on endpaper by Roberts in 1929 to Faith Van Valkenburgh Vilas, who lived in Connecticut and also wrote poetry. Roberts, who was born and raised in Jamaica and returned to live there in 1951, is often mentioned or honored as one of the fathers of Jamaican independence. He is occasionally regarded as having some African ancestry although there seems to be little evidence to support this belief. "Pan and Peacocks" was his second published book of poetry.
