About This Item
NY: Prentice Hall, 1974. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. An association copy, inscribed to Jim Harrison and his wife on the front free endpaper in the year of publication: "To Jim and Linda, with love, Daniel, March 13, 1974." Gerber and Harrison were not only great friends and fellow Michigan writers, but they collaborated together on projects like Sumac, both the magazine and its books, which Gerber funded and Harrison helped edit and contributed to. Their relationship is rather storied. This is Gerber's second novel and is based on his youthful enthusiasm for race car driving. Very good with a slight slant to spine, some fading/rubbing to edges. In a very good jacket with rubbing and several tears to front panel, one at top tight to spine, the other at left on lower edge. An excellent association.

About Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
