A magnificently illustrated edition of the classic 19th century portrait of English village life. First published as articles in The Lady's Home Journal in the 1820s and 1830s, Mary Russell Mitford's sketches perfectly recapture a long-vanished rural England. It was first published in book form in 1824. This edition is bound in red cloth and parchment paper and printed throughout in full color. 130 drawings and paintings by such contemporary nineteenth century masters as Constable, Turner and Stubbs, as well as 60 exquisite watercolors and pencil drawings by artist Shirley Felts that were specially commissioned for this edition. 224 pages. 10 x 7.5". 1987, Prentice Hall Direct/Simon & Schuster, NY
