About This Item

New York: James Miller, 647 Broadway, 1872. Octavo (19.3 x 13 cm.), 128, [8] pages. Publisher's advertisements. Later American printing, "from the Twelfth London Edition". A classic of early rustication literature, from the same American publisher that brought us Ten Acres Enough and How to Get a Farm. Our Farm..., with sections on cows, pigs, poultry, pigeons, butter-making, bread baking, and maintaining a kitchen garden is written as a narrative with dialogue, but clearly meant to be understood as informational. The Preface to the New Edition includes corrections and clarifications on milking cows, churning butter, and more. A few small marginal stains, pencil marks in the margins of two leaves. In publisher's black and gilt-titled and decorated brown cloth. A bit of light staining to boards, otherwise near fine. Early ink ownership signature, "E.S. Read, Winthrop Mass., July 22, 1877" to preliminary blank, and an interesting ink annotation beneath the title in what appears to be Taylor Shorthand.
