About This Item

London and New York: John Lane, 1898. Hardback. Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". None. An anthology of Percy Bysshe Shelley and Elizabeth Shelley's poetry. A facsimile, reprinted from the original 1810 edition which was presented by Percy Bysshe Shelley to his sweetheart. Of the first edition there are only three known copies. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Original Poetry was the first of Shelley's poetry to be published. It was originally published anonymously under the names Victor & Cazire. The poems were written by both Percy Shelley and his sister Elizabeth. Percy Shelley wrote eleven of the poems while Elizabeth wrote five. In original paper covered boards. Externally, smart with some marks to boards. Spine label and label to front board are age toned. Slight bumping to head and tail of spine. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Several gatherings are uncut to top edge. Pages are age toned to edges with scattered spots throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed
