About This Item
Ville de Paris, Off Cadiz, 19 August 1798. 1 page 13 x 8 inches, in fine clean condition. A superb historical record of the famous mutiny, signed by Admiral John Jervis, Earl St. Vincent (1735-1823) as Commander-in-Chief during the blockade of Cadiz, notable for the severe repression of a mutiny on board H.M.S.Marlborough during the summer of 1798. The Captain of HMS Marlborough has submitted his Surgeons letter to St. Vincent, stating that Charles Moore, who was not able to receive all the punishment justly awarded to him by the Sentence of a Court Martial is in a state to undergo the few remaining lashes. Every Ship of the Squadron is to send two Boats with an Officer in each, and two Marines or Soldiers, properly armed, in the Stern Sheets of each Boat, to assemble round His Majestys Ship the Marlborough, at half past 5 oclock tomorrow morning (Monday the 20th instant) to attend the punishment. The Marines, under Arms, and Ships Company, are to be kept up during the whole time of the punishment.
